For $1.75 a slice, this place has to be great for the deal right? Not really. It tastes worse than almost all of the other pizzas that I've had, even considering the price. People really seem to love the pizza here, from what the reviews say, but I will have to disagree. If you've had real brick oven pizza in New York, deep dish in Chicago, or even California pizza, you'll know that Margarita's does not cut it. I'll even have Costco pizza over this place any day. What could be wrong you may ask. Well to be honest there are two components that ruined it for me. Sadly, there's only 3 components to a slice of cheese: cheese, sauce, dough. The pizza dough at Margarita's wasn't bad, so I won't knock on it. However, it failed miserably in the other two areas. The cheese......WOW, just wow. It honestly tasted like they just dumped a whole lot of packaged grated parmesan cheese onto it and called it a cheese pizza. It was clumpy, flavorless, and the cheese fell apart. It's not like a real slice where the cheese will actually hold together and have some elasticity. None of that here. As far as the pizza sauce is concerned, there was no taste to it. It basically tasted like tangy water with bits of flavorless tomatoes inside. Really not the most ideal pizza I'd want to eat. Sure, you might be intoxicated and would think that this place would be awesome then. I don't even think any amount of alcohol in the world can make the pizza here awesome.

Definitely the best pizza in town! Their buffalo chicken pizza is the best I've had! Great service as well...Margaret (the owner) will remember your tastes after only one or two visits! Highly recommend!

Best pizza, salads, and cheesesteaks in town. The owners are some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet and make you feel right at home. Delicious food, friendly service - you can't go wrong at Margarita's!

Margarita is the smartest person in the world. The pizza is great for lunch.

Absolutely the best pizza in State College. Thin, crispy crust (nothing worse than a soggy, overloaded, oily crust); fresh ingredients (not overloaded but balanced on each slice); inexpensive, and the owners are so friendly. They know our family's order as soon as we walk in the door. Obviously, we need to switch it up a bit, but goes to show that they take an interest in their customers. The owner (Margarita?) has given me desserts to taste test when it's slow. Good people. The only downside is their hours: no weekend hours (I think--at least they're closed every time we've gone) and their summer hours are based on the amount of business they get. The last time I was in (2 weeks ago, during the summer), they were closing-up around 4 pm. Now I'm hungry just thinking about their veggie pizza. Seriously--go here.

The pizza is good, the sauce has a nice tang to it and the toppings were well apportioned (not too heavy but not skimping either). The crust is really good, nice and crispy. We have two gripes with our experience. One, based off the menu our meal should have been about $28, but when we picked up our food it was $40. I did notice the prices in the shop were a couple dollars more than the menu price online, but even the in shop prices didn't amount to $40 with tax. Two, we had to wait for a while once in the shop. They quoted twenty minutes, and we showed up thirty minutes after calling based off other reviewers saying it can take longer. We then waited another 15 minutes. There was no one in the shop and ours was the only visible order they were working on. If they had said forty minutes we would have been fine with that, but it was slightly annoying to be quoted 20 minutes and have it be 45. Good pizza, expensive at $40 for two pizzas but we'll probably give it another shot some time. Edit: Forgot to mention that we tried on multiple occasions to order from here on the weekend but despite being listed as open they were closed.

Margarita's is my very favorite place downtown. I absolutely love that I can go in and Margarita will remember exactly who I am and what I love to eat when I haven't been in for over a year. I lived in Portland, Oregon for a year and a half, and when I moved back to State College she exclaimed "How are things going? Did you move back? Would you like a stromboli?" - which was freakishly amazing. The last thing I ordered a year and a half earlier was a stromboli. The food - amazing. The desserts - Oh my god, amazing. I love how they have a display case for the specialty pizzas so you can see exactly what you're going to get before you get it. You can see that the slices are large and covered in fresh toppings and cheese. She also always has delicious looking desserts in the display case - like HUGE brownies. I got a giant brownie the other day and I was laughing with my coworkers that it was a brownie-loaf. It was the best brownie I've ever eaten. You have to try the hot italian, the buffalo chicken pizza, and the stromboli. Absolutely amazing. This is the real deal. :)

Get the Italian sub!!! This friendly couple serves up some quick, delicious, and affordable cheese steaks, subs, pizzas, and salads. Margarita will memorize your order if you go there twice and get the same thing. I will miss this place when I graduate. Usually not open during football games

Why does everyone love this place so much? The food is OK, but not great. Bell's is better and more interesting. The prices are high for a counter service pizza place.

I stopped in for a quick slice before work, here are my thoughts. I ordered a buffalo chicken slice and a soda, which came out to about $4.75. I thought this was pretty expensive for the size of the slice of pizza they give you (kinda small), so I looked up at their menu board and noticed that pretty much everything was expensive/overpriced. A large Buffalo Chicken pizza was somewhere around $18, and a large plain was over $13. I don't have a problem paying a high price for good pizza with quality ingredients, but the pizza here really is nothing special. The best thing about the buffalo chicken slice was definitely the crust, it was crispy, airy, and tasted fresh. The cheese on the pizza was a weird consistancy and seemed like it had too much parmasan in the blend. I can't really say anything about the sauce because it didnt appear that they put any on this slice. I was expecting wing sauce but tasted mainly bleu cheese. This place is OK....and from what I am seeing for the state college area, OK is about as good as it gets for pizza.

I agree completely with the previous reviewer - great food, great people, and great prices. They have THE BEST pizza in the State College area! The service is quick and the seating is ample. The red sauce is tangy and full flavored. Don't miss out on the cheesesteak, either! Be sure to call first if its nearing their closing time - like me, they like to leave a little early if they're not very busy.

The closest thing to NY pizza here in State College. It is great pizza. We have tried a ton of places (feels like every single one) here in State College to make a determination and we don't go other places anymore. All the food is good, but after all it is a pizzeria, so go for the pizza. The service is wonderful as well. Margaret always remembers me and treats me like family. My daughters love going because they often leave with a little bonus treat.

Easily the best pizza in State College. It would even stand on its own against some New York pizza. It's only about $1.50 a slice which is a really good price for real pizza. Go here. Try any of their pizzas, and you'll wonder why you ever ate Canyon or College.

I definatly feel like this is still the best pizza up here at state college. I've tried many other places and nothing was as good as Margarita's! The service inside is very nice and friendly staff and I look forward to going back again!

Absolutely best pizza place in PA. Negative reviews on here are straight haters. Seriously. If you have the time to write out a paragraph bad review for a pizza shop that is mom and pops you have no life and getting hit by a car is your best fate. A lot of stuff is homemade, some things are not. All of it is on point. TRY THIS PLACE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED AND IF YOU ARE ADDRESS IT THE ADULT WAY!!! Not behind a keyboard!

I love this place. When I visited Penn State for the MacAdmin Conference this month I ate here a few days in a row for lunch. The lady working remembered me and my wife each time we came in and made us feel like home. Great pizza, great service, you don't find places like this much I wish they had a location in Detroit so I could eat there all the time.

Caro mio! Cibo fatto con amore! This mom and pop pizza joint serves a little amore with every slice. Not only is their pizza in the running for best in State College, and this is a serious pizza town, but you can't help but want to do business here as the owners love their customers. They greet regulars and new comers alike with a warm smile, friendly conversation and a hot slice. The pesto pizza is one serious pie and may very well be my favorite anywhere. Pesto, tomato, cheese, and crust - why mess with perfection? The pepperoni rolls are also amazing, each one rolled by hand. Give it a try and I know you'll be back for more.

Firstly, everytime I have eaten here the service was rude. On to the food- Pizza is bland, average at best and definitely not New York style like other reviewers are saying. I order a side of meatballs which was basically a massive disappointment. First I only received two small meatballs for almost 5 dollars! Insane. Second, as I bit into the meatballs, I heard a HUGE CRACK and it was my tooth being crushed by a large chunk of BONE! This happened several times before I gave up on my 5 dollar meatballs. I could have broken a tooth and i am in serious pain. DO NOT EAT THESE MEATBALLS UNLESS YOU WANT TO VIsit the dentist! Ouch!!!! Not sure what was in that.... As a side note, They have bank hours which are very convenient NOT. Also have a 10 minimum which is stupid for a pizza shop!

I've been a Penn State student for like 6 years running so I consider myself an expert on local cuisine. All I know is that if I was in line on death row to be electrocuted, my last meal would be a Margarita's Italian Sub, handed to me by charming Margaret herself.

Fantastic pizza, and best customer service I've ever had in State College. Owner's are extremely sweet and generous and talkative. Really no question where I get my pizza from.

Very good pizza by the slice. Went for a quick lunch with my wife. 4 slices and 2 sodas was $15. No bad for 2 people. I had 2 slices of spinach and ricotta. Delicious. My wife has 1 pepperoni and 1 tomato basil. She enjoyed them but did not finish it all. Margarita, herself, works the counter and is very friendly. Sub looked good too. Maybe next time.

Great NY Style pizza. I thought good pizza did not exist in State College. I was very happily wrong. The garlic bread was pretty tasty too!

I went because of all the mega positive reviews but I'm confused. This isn't New York style pizza. Have any of the reviewers claiming it is ever actually been to New York City? I mean, if you like it, that's fine. But don't call it New York... New York style pizza has ultra-thin crust, a very high cheese-to-sauce ratio, and a good helping of grease. This did not fit any of those characteristics. Since I like New York style pizza, I wasn't a fan. My main issue was the sauce. It was heavy on the sauce and the sauce didn't taste good. More cheese, please! I do have to say that I ordered a slice, and maybe things would have been different if I ordered a whole pie? Not sure. The woman behind the counter (Margarita, I suppose) seemed really friendly, so I hate to knock this place but I just really didn't like the pizza :(

This is one of my favourite pizza places in the country. That says it all. The meat lovers stuffed slice, and the garlic knot thingies, absolutely fantastic. Thankfully they have a lot more than just Margarita Pizza because that's pretty bland in general. If you've ever been to State College, it's picturesque but the city itself seems overrun by towerblocks of student housing, so it's surprising to find such a delicious eatery in the midst of that, yet in the middle of nowhere, PA. Just a few days into my tour, and I'd had a good but troublesome show in Erie PA, an incredible show in Youngstown, a terrible show in Pittsburgh, and a good one in State College with a really nice, intimate atmosphere and crowd. After another night sleeping in the car in Pitt I decided to stay up all night in McDonalds, so by morning I was exhausted and felt like a zombie. In my infinite wisdom, I chose to try out a couple of the local food places that were highly regarded. I am so glad I did! My word was this magnificent! I can't wait to go back to SCPA just to try this slice again! It was not too long of a drive to Williamsport for my next show, so I stopped by before I headed out and picked up a couple of slices. I was really impressed! The Cheese and Pep slice was good but what impressed me was the meat lovers stuffed slice! So greasy and decadent and over the top and filing and cheap and filled with sausage and pepperoni, how could you not love it? The jumbo meat lovers slice was big enough to feed a couple of lions! And it often does.... of the Nittany variety. But definitely try this place. It's hotter than all the Penn State students at a foam party on Halloween. However. the truth is there is no foam party. They all hang out in McDonalds all night. I know. I was there. I saw it with my own 2 slices. So whether you are at Penn State, or in the State Pen, find an excuse to get out of your cage and try a meat lovers stuffed slice from here. Please. Before I get tired of making bad jokes about it. Yo.
